RE: Hi! New to forum....any suggestions on new fifth-wheel?

I would be hard pressed to go to any other brand then the NuWa products. It is simply one of the best made 5th wheels out there. I have read on the NuWa owners site, from the CEO Mike, that the backs come off the sofas so they will go through the door. I would think you would regret trading your HH for a lesser quality trailer. If you use your trailer for long periods of time, most manufacturers will void their warranty. Read the fine print or even look on the cushions for that info. Some claim to be for fulltimers and then won't warranty for full time use. Come to the sight and see for yourself. We are a friendly group and you can find out what you can do about your decor, if that is an option for you. NuWa owners forum

RE: Unhooking fifth wheel with no help!

Don't be afraid to ask for help. I had help the first time I tried to unhook at a campground and needed it badly. You will get the hang of it quickly. Chock or block the wheels of the trailer before unhooking. You don't want to be trying to figure out how to stop it from rolling down a hill when it is moving. Backup camera would be a good add on. Look for pull through sites so you don't have to back up as much. Please don't take this wrong, but if you want to travel there are singles travel groups. You can help those that help you. I am in no way suggesting that anyone could replace your co-pilot. Sorry to hear of your loss. Have faith. If you take time to look you will see she is not as far as you may have thought. Take care.

RE: Ready to buy, am I missing something on bargining ???

If you are not in any hurry, wait until about August when the season is ending. Right now is their busy time so they won't be as hungry. September or October may be even better. The big thing is can you wait?:B

RE: Planning a modication to our slide outs

Check and make sure the foam around the slides are not rolling under. This can leave a gap and let air in. The bottom of our bedroom slide did this and just pulling it back into shape fixed the problem.

RE: Making the switch from camper to fifth wheel, floor plans?

The best advice I can give you is to look around at different 5th wheels. RV shows are good for looking or lot to lot. After you find what you like in a floor plan ask here about the specific models. If you plan to live in it for months at a time, I would also suggest you look at warranties. Some companies will not cover you if you live that long in it at a time. Also they do wear out faster. I would suggest 3 slides. But some have small entertainment areas now, so you might get away with 2. As for someone to tell you what you should buy, forget it. You need to do the leg work so see what works for you. It is a buyers market, so you should find some deals out there.

RE: Underbelly removal / leak repair

It isn't all that hard if you have the bolts. I used my cordless drill as well. Problems you may encounter are you may have to cut your panel if the pipe goes through it. I used a branch cutter as it was handy. Look to see if your propane line is in the way. You may have to loosen it for several feet as it doesn't move out of the way very easily. Buy some of the metallic duct tape. It is good for closing up the holes around pipes etc. I would recommend goggles as well. Keeps the dirt out of your eyes. Good luck.

RE: Coffee pot suggestions please

I have one of the much maligned B&D under the counter ones. We fulltime so it is used daily. Works good. Only problem I have had was when the pot was not placed right and coffee ran down. Have wood cabinet doors and no problems around it so far. I hope I have one of the ones made by the A-Team on a Wednesday too.

RE: 1st rv-nervous- now what

Inside you will need most of what you have in your house. Kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, entertainment stuff, bedroom stuff. Make lists of what you think you will need. Look around and see what you think you might want with you. And as others have said camp close to someone you know and/or someplace you can buy what you need. Two way radios are a must in my opinion for backing up. DW can tell you what you can't see and if you are going to hit something. Good luck on your maiden voyage.

RE: movement

Do a search for Wayne's stabilizers. They are less expensive then JT's but would help. I have not used them myself but others say they work.

RE: tred-co Freestar (NANKANG) tires on a 2009 bighorn

China Bombs? The tire threads are out of control around here. A few failures and an entire line of tires are bad. The percentage of tire problems reported on here are small. Like kakampers said "There are thousands of consumers who've had no problem whatsover with the tires that manufacturers are using as standard on their units; china bombs or not! If a consumer doesn't feel safe with the tires offered, he has the option to pay for an upgrade...". How many of you have had an actual tire problem that can be attributed to the tire based on some facts not your guess. I think most of the tire problems are overloading, speeding, inflation, and or road hazard. But one flat gone unnoticed leads to blow-out, gets reportd, then another and its easier to blame the tire than look for the real reason. Soon you have an internet epidemic of blowouts. How many have actually weighed thier rigs? Checked air pressure religiously? Tow under 65mph? I have run Carlise bias ply tires on my trailer since 2005 and have had zero problems Grand Canyon and back, and tens of thousands of miles. According to forum I should have crased and burned a long time ago. Kind of like a dog poop thread, everyone hates it, but how many actually stepped in it? Flame suit is on people. -rog But once you step in it, you will never forget!

RE: tred-co Freestar (NANKANG) tires on a 2009 bighorn

It would make good business sense to make good on a statement made by an employee. They will still make lots of money even if they don't charge the extra money for the tires. IMHO it makes more sense to make a deal then lose a customer that will tell hundreds how unhappy they are. From what I understand Heartland is one of the better manufacturers around. But all of the industry has to pay attention to what is said here about tires. If they are made in China they are junk. It doesn't seem to matter what brand they are. If I was buying a new trailer I would only be happy if they were not only a good brand, but that they are made in someplace other then China.

RE: keystone electrical issues

We have the water heater, AC, coffee maker, microwave, TV, DVD, Stereo, Fridge some lights and other appliances on our 30Amp. It all works fine. When we used all this on 15 Amp when they serviced the electric in the campground, the heat pump chugged until I turned off the water heater. I feel if you payed for 30 Amp it should all work unless there is a problem with the electrical supply. Had that happen one time, but that was a campground problem.

RE: No-dually fivers

I agree with Kennedycamper on the NuWa. I would say this. DON'T BUY A TRUCK!!!! Pick out a truck you like. Find out the towing capacity. Then go look at trailers. When you find a trailer and truck that works, then buy the truck and trailer. If you buy a truck you may find that it won't pull the trailer you want then what. Good luck shopping!

RE: Houston, we have a problem

DW was ill so I told her not to bother watching as I pulled out of storage. The rear of the trailer caught the pole holding up the cover. Did some damage that I can repair myself but would be costly at a shop. Watch the bedroom slide. Hit my head rather hard before we left on our first trip. We hooked up and everything was good. Started to pull away and a man started to yell. I guess I forgot to put up the one leg when getting ready to leave. Nice spark show and it got a bit hot, but no damage other then to my head and ego.

RE: Central Vac system

We have one and the hose is in storage. It is too long and takes up to much space. I was told it goes, so it went. I used it a couple of times and to be honest didn't like it for the reasons, stated above. DW says it was hard for her to use, but that is because she doesn't like to dance over the hose. Also the storage issue. She didn't like the suction either. We use an upright and it works good enough.

RE: Your advice will be my decision...

Swiss if you can stay in the Vancouver area in your trailer you will be ok. It rarely goes to freezing. Vancouver island is warm too. Most other places you will want an apartment. It just gets to cold. If you know the area, you can look up the average temps for the area, but do take the time to look at lows. Good luck, sounds like you have a great adventure ahead of you.

RE: BEST CELL PHONE COVERAGE

If you plan to go to the middle of nowhere, in Canada, then Verizon is your best bet. They are partnered with the provincial and Bell phone companies. The rest use Rogers. Rogers has far less coverage then the others. We have had little trouble with Verizon.
